How to File Your Nails ?
Start with dry nails that have been cut to the approximate length. Hold the nail file flat, as filing at an angle can thin your nail and weaken the edge, making it prone to bending or breakages. Filing in one direction is preferable, though if you’re gentle with it, you can file side by side. File from the side of the nail to the center, half a nail at a time, then shape the other side. (Filing your nails back and forth will lead to breakage, tearing, and rugged edges)

- Removing lifted product during fills
- Rough shaping before refining with a finer grit
Better Control Than Lower Grits
- Less aggressive than 60 grit (reduces risk of over-filing).
- More precise than 100+ grit for quick shaping.
Nail Files Grit Guide-The smaller the grit number, the coarser it is.
| 80 Grit | Ultra-coarse filing - removes bulk quickly. Best For: Thick acrylic/gel extensions, shortening long nails fast |
| 100 Grit | Coarse grit - Heavy shaping and length reduction. Best For: Acrylics, hard gels, or very thick natural nails |
| 120 Grit | Coarse grit - Moderate shaping with less aggression than 100 grit. Best For: Refining acrylic/gel edges or shortening sturdy natural nails |
| 150 Grit | Medium grit - Smooths out scratches left by coarser grits. Best For: Prepping natural nails for polish or blending acrylic/gel seams |
| 180 Grit | Medium grit - Fine shaping and finishing.Best For: Regular use on natural nails; Final edge smoothing before polish on artificial nails |
| 240 Grit | Fine grit - Light buffing and scratch removal. Best For: Pre-polish prep (removes minor imperfections). Smoothing calluses (pedicures) |
| 320 Grit | Ultra-fine buffing. Best For: Creating a glossy shine on natural nails (no polish needed). Removing tiny ridges before gel polish |
| 400 Grit | High-shine polishing. Best For: Final buffing for a mirror-like finish. Delicate nails (too fine to cause damage) |
Tips: Natural nails require a finer grit. (180 is the minimum) A fine grit is gentle and easy on the nails and the nail beds. On the other hand, artificial nails; such as acrylic, gel or silk require a courser grit on a file. (80 to 180 grit)
